    Real Barn meets miniature truck

I photographed this large, well maintained old barn in Haddam CT. For fun I then photographed a 1950’s 3″ long diecast model toy truck in my studio. Using photoshop I then put the truck in the driveway of the barn just for fun. Barn photographed with a Sony A7RV, 61mp, mirrorless camera and a Sony 24-70 f2.8 GMII lens @ 45mm. 1/125th, f11, ISO 200, Aperture Priority

    Silhouette of Loving Couple

Although I’ve done shots like this before, back in the day, when I was a wedding photographer this shot is actually an illusion. How was it done?  6″ tall ceramic statue  Placed on a table in my studio  (1) strong backlight against a white cardboard backdrop  Using manual focus bring the edges of the hands and head into sharp focus.  Place camera in Manual Mode and exposure for the background rendering the “couple” black.  Bring into photoshop.  Select all the “white” background areas.  Digitally insert a previously taken sunset picture into the selected background.  DONE! To do this same type of shop on location with a “real” couple simply set…

Product Review – ProMaster RL100 LED Ringlight

https://promaster.com/Product/1888 Disclaimer:  ProMaster did not ask me to do this review and I am not affiliated with them. After several years of use for macro or tabletop photography I loved this product so much that I felt the need to write a review for it. I actually can’t remember when I purchased this item but it was a few years back. I paid $99.95 at the time and, interestingly enough, Promaster offers this product on their website still today for only $99.95. I spent most of my recent years as a landscape photographer but this past year that has changed, mostly due to semi-retirement, and this ring light has gotten…

Vintage Books – Shakespeares Complete Works, c.1915

Shakespeares Complete Works, 10 volume, published by McKay c. 1915 This volume of books was published about 109 years ago and, in my opinion, was worthy of a photograph.  Because the covers and bindings were fraying so badly with considerable signs of deterioration I wanted to make sure that I captured that detail in my images.  To do so I took (4) separate images of the books and bookends allowing me to get quite close with the 85mm lens.  I then stiched them together in photoshop ultimately rendering a 16 x 9 image. I used a MACRO lens and took a close up image of a small 2″ x 3″…

Product Shot – Bottle of Wine

An image of a Colorfast, vintage 2021, bottle of wine and glass. The image was photographed in a studio setting using (3) lights, some with red/blue colored output. This background was created from 8.5 x 11.00″ white paper sheets which were folded into the shapes you see and attached together. They were lit from one side with a red/blue LED diffused light. The paper was enlarged “stretched” in photoshop so they would fill the background. The wine bottle was shot twice. Once lit from behind with a red gel’d light and once from in front with a 5600k clear light. This rendered the label exactly as it would appear on…

    Reflections of a Slinky

This was a plastic slinky I purchased at the local Dollar General store for about $1.00. This proves even senior citizens can enjoy a slinky. Perhaps in a different way than a five year old but I got my dollars worth out of it. (smile) Photographed with a Sony A7RII, 42.3 MP mirrorless camera and a Sony 90 mm MACRO F2.8 G OSS lens. Two light setup, 5600K. Shot on a black acrylic reflective tile. 2.5 seconds, F16, ISO 100, MANUAL MODE, (16) shot focus stack using a manual focusing rail. Helicon Focus to complete the stack into one final image.

Studio Shot – Vintage Phone Booth

This is an approximately 18″ lantern from my house. It had a candle inside which I removed. The intent was to replicate a vintage phone booth. The top had been doctored and the words “PHONE” were added. I set this shot up in a pitch dark studio light painting it by hand to life. I used a Sony A7RM2, 42 mp, mirrorless camera with a Sony 24-105 F4 G OSS lens @ 42mm. 4 seconds, F8, ISO 50, MANUAL MODE, (1) hand torch.
