Disclaimer:  ProMaster did not ask me to do this review and I am not affiliated with them.

After several years of use for macro or tabletop photography I loved this product so much that I felt the need to write a review for it.

I actually can’t remember when I purchased this item but it was a few years back. I paid $99.95 at the time and, interestingly enough, Promaster offers this product on their website still today for only $99.95.

I spent most of my recent years as a landscape photographer but this past year that has changed, mostly due to semi-retirement, and this ring light has gotten more than its fair share of use for table top, product, or macro shoots.

This is a FIVE STAR purchase. Absolutely no complaints and that’s rare for a photographer.

It is made of hard plastic which makes it durable but lightweight which is vital when you’re mounting this off the end of your lens.  The (8) mounting ring adapters that come with the kit have allowed me to use a myriad of lenses.

The lights are BRIGHT, really bright. There are (5) intensity settings and many times I lower them as I don’t need all that power.  If I’m using overhead or side lighting than this is a wonderful fill light to remove or lessen shadows.  However, if you’re shooting directly straight on then there are no shadows!

It operates on (4) AA batteries.  The control panel is lighted and the controls are simple. It can be mounted in any hot shoe as there are no electrical contacts.  The hot shoe simply serves as a base to secure the control panel.  Many times I’m seated behind the camera and the control panel blocks my view of what I’m photographing. Or I want to use a shoe mounted flash in conjunction with the ring light.  So I simply attach it to a point on my tripod.

The LED lights come with (4) diffusion rings. One yellow, blue, clear and frosted.  I almost always use the frosted ring to soften the light.

If you’re seeing the need to use this remotely such as a wedding photographer photographing the rings, for example, you’ll be pleased to know it packs up in the provided nylon case.

If you’re shooting up close and you don’t have a ring light you’re missing out.  I’d highly recommend this particular product. In addition I reached out to ProMaster customer service about a year ago with something I needed for my ProMaster tripod and I received top notch support!  You won’t go wrong.
