Picture perfect barn scene in Harwinton CT

When Cheryl and I pulled up to this barn scene on a quiet, rural road in Harwinton, we knew it had all the elements for a great image. A gorgeous barn, horses, corral, beautiful tall trees in the foreground, stone wall, surrounded by sunlit trees all laid out perfectly on a manicured, clutter free, lot. The sun was directly overhead eliminating those long, harsh, ugly shadows. What a winner this was!

The perfect barn of “Pine Hill” in Burlington CT

I was able to get Cheryl parked safely off the side of the road on this very buy highway in Burlington CT where this pristine barn sits. Standing on the edge of the road, with vehicles whisking by at about 50 mph, I was able to frame up a nice composition of the Pine Hill Barn. I don’t think this is a working farm but rather a residential address where the homeowners maintained the original barn beautifully over the years. The residence is seen peeking through the tree’s on the far right edge of the image. Five stars go out to these homeowners for the time they’ve spent preserving history…

    Unique barn in Burlington CT

Cheryl and I were chasing down barns in Burlington CT this sunny Saturday afternoon. I particularly liked the unique design of this barn and the way the wood aged. Although I’m not a big fan of bright sunny days for shooting I did like the way the sun fell through the tree’s onto this barn and the end result. NOTE: This barn actually sits just a few feet from an asphalt roadway which totally ruined this shot. I did take the liberty to remove the roadway in photoshop and substitute it with a nice grassy lawn which I had photographed minutes earlier elsewhere in town. Photographed with a Sony A7RII…

Ivy crawling up the sides of this barn…………..

Cheryl kept the car running while I took a quick shot of this old red barn in the Monroe CT area. The ivy crawling up the side of the barn gives it a nice look as it sits in the middle of the field. After this we headed out to view the other barns on our list but didn’t have a lot of luck today. We were able to photograph one other barn in Monroe but that’s a pretty small catch for us. Photographed with a Sony A7RII 42.4 MP full frame mirrorless camera and a Sony 24-105 F4 lens @ 53 mm. 1/200th, f16, ISO 800, Aperture Priority

Old Cow Farm in Litchfield CT

Another barn on the list for Cheryl and I in Litchfield CT this bright sunny day. This property covered many acres and was a beautiful site to see. I’m sure at one time this was a bustling farm replete with farm house as seen in the right distant side of the image. However, with it’s boarded windows I believe the farm house is no longer occupied. I didn’t see a lot of activity or any livestock during my visit so I’m not sure to what extent the farm is utilized today. With it’s towering silo’s and acres of fields I’m sure there was a lot of cows to feed back…

Old white barn in Roxbury CT

This was another Roxbury CT barn that Cheryl and I had on our list today. It was a beautiful day for a ride in the awesome Roxbury countryside. This old barn has seen better days. Because I’m a barn nut I think it has a very nice look to it, at least from this angle. However the opposite side had large gaping holes, the floor is rotting out, the roof is leaking and it’s open to wild life. It’s just a matter of time for this old relic of days gone by but that’s what pictures are for right? The memories. Photographed with Sony A7RII, 42.2 MP full frame, mirrorless…

Barn in the sticks of Winchester CT

I was hunting barns in the northwest corner of Torrington CT when I had just crossed over the town line into Winchester.  I stumbled upon this barn on what appeared to be a very narrow, poorly maintained country road.  You had a sense that you were really in the country with little around. Photographed with a Nikon D7100 and a Nikon 18-55 lens at 20 mm. 1/250th, f11, ISO 100 Aperture Priority
