    Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse, Maine

Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse 2 Fort Rd, South Portland, ME 04106 Cheryl and I decided to spent a few days up in the Portland ME area this past September to photograph some lighthouses and take in the sights. Spring Point Ledge lighthouse is a beauty.  We caught a nice day for photography and there were few people there which allowed me to get the images I wanted.  If you’re into lighthouses this is one to see. Photographed with a Nikon D7100 and Nikon 80-400 mm telephoto lens, tripod mounted.  1/1250, F16, ISO 800 PHOTO TIPS: F 16 was used to get as much depth of field as possible without degrading…

Bug Light Lighthouse, So. Portland ME

Bug Light Lighthouse This lighthouse guides the ships into Portland Harbor which is right across the harbor to the left just out of view in this image.  It is situated in Bug Light Park in South Portland ME.  It’s a spacious park with a nice view of downtown Portland and is nestled in on the north and east side by the Atlantic Ocean. A great place to chill for a while, watch your kids play or maybe read a book. Cheryl enjoyed the serenity on the park bench while I did my thing with my Nikon. Downtown Portland Maine

Downtown Portland Maine Cheryl and I stayed a few days at the Westin Hotel in downtown Portland ME during mid September of 2018.  We spent a lot of time in South Portland and surrounding towns as we preferred that to the city scene.  This shot was taken from Bug Light Park. That’s the home of the Bug Light Lighthouse (see Bug Light Lighthouse post).  The park was very serene with the Atlantic ocean on the north and east side.  It also presented a beautiful view of downtown Portland. This is a vibrant city of around 68,000 and Maines most populated. The shot was taken about 15′ above the old abandoned…

    Portland Head Light Lighthouse

Portland Head Light Lighthouse 1000 Shore Road Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107 This was the one lighthouse we wanted to nail during our stay in Portland ME.  Portland Head Light Lighthouse is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the country.  I think you can see why. If only I lived in the area I would photograph this lighthouse in all types of weather and lighting conditions.  However, it’s a bit of trip for me to get here so I made the best of it. It’s located in Cape Elizabeth on the grounds of Fort Williams Park Cheryl and I stopped by on September 18 later in the afternoon and it…

Twin Lights Lighthouse, Cape Elizabeth ME

While staying in Portland for a few days, with my wife Cheryl,  Twin Lights Lighthouse was on our list of must get shots.  It’s also known as Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse depending on who you talk to.   We were on a tiny peninsula.  As you face the lighthouse to take the photograph there was an inlet of water between the lighthouse and the rocks I was standing on. Then the Atlantic Ocean was to my right and back side.  The rocks had a unique striation to them.  If you saw them in person they almost looked like wood. Everything you’d ever want to know about Twin Lights Lighthouse All images…

Old Drake Hill Flower Bridge, Simsbury CT

Old Drake Hill Flower Bridge 1 Old Bridge Rd. Simsbury, CT 06070 Cheryl and I were driving all over Simsbury CT one beautiful Saturday afternoon checking off our list of “must have” shots. We were focusing on old barns and didn’t have this shot on our list. It was by shear luck that we happened by it and were taken by it’s serenity and beauty. It was built in 1892. For more information about the bridge go here: https://www.simsbury-ct.gov/culture-parks-recreation/pages/the-old-drake-hill-flower-bridge Photographed with Nikon D7100, 24MP DSLR and 18-55 mm lens @ 18mm. 35mm equiv. = 27. Barn at Dry Bridge Rd., Simsbury CT

While barn hunting in Simsbury CT, on a lovely Saturday afternoon, with Cheryl we came upon this old barn nestled in the foothills. Unfortunately most of the silo and barn itself are hidden by a tree, but you take what you can get. Photographed with a Nikon D7100, 24MP DSLR and an 18-55mm lens @ 55mm (35mm equiv. = 82mm). 1/125th, f16, ISO 400
