On a weekday afternoon in early October I stopped by the Meriden Green as I had never been there before and was impressed by the foot bridge structure. My visit did not disappoint. This 14 acre park was quite beautiful. It’s many walkways and open greens allow for public recreation. There is a nice amphitheater with ample seating on one end. The brook running through the center of the park is a nice touch that adds visual appeal as well as some flood protection if I understand correctly. I wandered through the park from one end to the other and one side to the other. There were very few people…

Southford Falls in the Fall
I had been wanting to photograph Southford Fall in the fall and this was the last day I really had to do it before too many leaves were down. Unfortunately I would have to work in a fairly sustained driving rain. Not only did I have to be concerned with my equipment but the rain was knocking the leaves off the tree’s while I was. The rocks and leaves made for a slippery surface as I very carefully set up my tripod on the bank of the stream. I was perched about 6′ above the stream and the rain kept coming down. Being a bit clumsy and absent minded at…

Grazing Horses in the fall……….Hamden CT
I took a ride over to the Hamden Polo Grounds to see what I could find. It was a beautiful fall day and leaves were dropping fast. They had four fenced in fields camera accessible from the road to pick from. Each one had horses but varying backgrounds. I ultimately chose the image, with the three horses, as my favorite. It framed the horses nicely and had the most colorful fall backdrop. Photographed with a Sony Nex 7, 24.3MP, APS-C mirrorless camera and a Sony 18-55 F3.5-5.6 lens @ 54mm (35mm = 81mm). 1/320th, f5.6, ISO 800, Aperture Priority

Barn and Silo in Woodbury CT
Per usual, Cheryl mapped out our next barn stop in the car while I photographed this one. It’s double silo tells me it was most likely a cow barn back in the day for a small farm. I don’t know what’s its purpose is today. Is it used for storage, is someone living in there or are they trying to maintain the history? The fairly new roof tells me that they owners are taking care of it. Photographed with Sony A7RII, 42.3MP full framed mirrorless camera and a Sony 24-105 F4 lens @ 41mm. 1/200th, f11, ISO 640, Aperture Priority.

Boothbay ME
Cheryl and I were looking for a little downtime and found it in the quiet, quaint, seafaring village of Boothbay ME. Population approx. 3000 people many of which don’t live there year round. It is a summer tourist attraction although we arrived in mid September and most of that bustling activity was behind us. We stayed at the Tugboat Inn. Our part of the hotel was built on a peer that went out into the harbor consisting of about 16 rooms (best of my recollection). Eight rooms on the south side where we stayed and I believe more rooms on the north side as there were two floors and a…

Permaquid Lighthouse, ME
Cheryl and I had targeted the Permaquid Lighthouse in New Harbor ME as a must shot for us. Upon arriving, in early September, we were quick to confirm that we certainly were not disappointed. This was perhaps one of the most serene peaceful and beautiful locations that we had ever photographed. Unfortunately my image doesn’t pay justice to what you really feel when you’re here. When you walk away from the parking area into the grounds and see this majestic view of the ocean and it’s absolutely breathtaking rock ledges you’ll be had. Once back in my office and looking at my images I had wished that I shot a…

1811 Old Jail, Wicassett ME
Cheryl and I stopped by the 1811 Old Jail in Wiscassett, Lincoln Country ME. Unfortuantely it was closed for the season during our September arrival. The prison has unique juxtaposition of jailers quarters hitched to the jail itself. Although we were unable to go inside I did find some interior photo’s at the Lincoln County Historical Society webpage. The jailers home was quite nicely appointed while the jail was one step up from a dungeon. Each cell had the grainte floors and walls that you see from the outside with just one window and one iron clad door with some small holes to allow air flow and visibility to the…

Pelican Cove, ME
During our early September stay in Maine Cheryl and I visited the quaint coastal town of Ogunquit, (pop. approx. 1600), which is home to Perkins Cove. This was just a quick drive from York Maine where our hotel was. We walked around Perkins Cove specifically as this cove was surrounded by water on three sides and was a small, quaint little paradise. It was full of unique boutiques, locally made merchandise and a couple of nice restaurants. Not to mention all the boating. It had the feel of Rockport MA’s artist community but was considerably smaller. If you ever decide to go the best parking is on the left just…
