Beautiful setting in Roxbury CT
After a long afternoon of shooting barns the sun was setting nicely for Cheryl and I. If you look past the tall silo you can see that the landscape goes on as far as the eye can see. Another beautiful barn setting in the gorgeous town of Roxbury CT. Another old barn in gorgeous Roxbury CT
Another address on our list for Cheryl and I as we went barn hopping during a gorgeous spring afternoon in Roxbury CT. Home to only around 2300 residents, with little commercial development and a lot of farm land, this journey was a true pleasure. I decided to take in all the beautiful stone work in the lot opposite this barn. I don’t know if that land belonged to the barn owner or not but I felt it enhanced the image. Sunrise Farm – Farmington/Avon CT area
I love signs painted on barns. In this area they are not easy to come by. I thought the cupola was particularly nice. Unfortunately due to heavy brush growth on both sides straight on was the only shot I had. I was unable to gather any info. off the internet as to the history of this barn. One person did write that it was built in 1876 but I don’t have any proof to support that. Quintessential New England
I was doing my usual thing looking for old barns in the northeast country side of Connecticut when I saw this house situated on a main road. It was Early October and the leaves were just starting to turn. The style of the house, the flag on the front, the hand crafted stone wall, it all said New England to me. Quintessential New England! Still standing strong in retirement……..
This barn may have been put out to pasture years ago but it is still holding its own as foliage tries to overtake it on every side. I think it’s a gem of a barn and I hope it stands for many years to come representing all the hard work of the farmers who passed through it’s doors. It can be seen at the corner of South Rd. and Sabolick Rd., in the countryside of New Hartford CT. The Bomba Bros. Farm 79 Great Hill Rd, Seymour, CT 06483 This article will take you on a short snippet of a family’s century long journey. What you will read encapsulates why I’ve spent years traveling around Southern CT photographing barns and farms. To me it represents a simpler time, a less cluttered time. A time when the work at hand was tackled by strong, disciplined families, with a work ethic that can only be emulated. Surrounding foliage keeps this barn upright.
This sun sets on this old barn in RT 80 in North Branford CT. I think it’s close to it’s final curtain call. If you saw the other side, which I was unable to photograph without entering their property, you’d see the entire wall was missing and most of the roof. I don’t know how much longer this barn has before complete collapse. I’m reasonably sure that the upcoming New England winter will cause it to reach it’s tipping point. Too bad because it must have a been a beauty in its day. I like old barns in various states of decline so, to me, the barn still looks beautiful.…
