Beautiful old aging barn in Southbury
To me this barn is very striking. It appears to sit abandoned in the middle of the woods with no lead in road or path. Father time is having it’s way as the foliage creeps in around it and the paint fades. Two things I found unique. There is about 6′ overhang on the side nearest the viewer. You don’t see that on barns. The silo is also unique as well as the silos roof. The silo almost has a “home made” look to it but I’m sure was functional and I think gives this barn a lot of character. It’s a true relic. Photographed in the winter with a…

Octagon Barn in Southbury CT
Cheryl and I set our sails to Southbury CT, in early March, where we wanted to photograph this unique octagon barn. There were no trespassing signs around it’s circumference leading me to believe that the owner has seen his share of visitors over the years. I very subtly parked my car off the road down the street and walked over to the opposite side of the road to take the images. In and out in less than two minutes. I am very sensitive to homeowners and barn owners as to not impose upon them. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any historical data on this barn except that the Southbury Historical Society…

Fall at the park…………
Early in my life I spent lived 15+ years in Meriden CT. Besides their library the one thing that I took considerable advantage of, and still do to this day, is Hubbard Park. It’s a beautiful sprawling park at with Castle Craig looking down upon it from atop the mountain. It’s visited by individuals, groups and families all week long. It was a real gift bestowed upon the City of Meriden by Mr. Hubbard back in the day. If you were to visit the park and take the approx. 1.5 mile road that leads up to Castle Craig one of the first vista’s you’ll pass is the Meriden Reservoir on…

The Barn at Brooksvale Park
It was late August and Cheryl and I went over to the Brooksvale Park in Hamden CT to photograph this historic barn. It was a joint effort as Cheryl framed this beautiful scene layout and I took the image. The Brooksvale Barn was built at some time in the 1700’s making it one of the oldest barns I’ve ever photographed. It sits on 500 acres of land most of which is wooded and used for trail walking. The barn was part of a working farm, owned by the Brooks family, which was handed down from generation to generation. The Town of Hamden started purchasing parcels of the land from the…

Couple of Barns in Southbury CT
These two barns were loated on a very narrow dirt road. I wasn’t expecting this. I couldn’t get far enough back to frame these shots as I would have wanted to. I, unfortunately needed a super wide angle lens which was left home accidentally. A neighbor came out and told me that the grey barn is very very old but she didn’t know the year it was built. Both were photographed with a Sony Nex 7, 24.3 MB, mirrorless camera and a Sony Carl Zeiss 24mm, f1.8 lens: Red Barn: 1/160th, f11, ISO 100, Aperture priority Grey Barn: 1/125th, F11, ISO 200, Aperture priority

The Windmill at Aqua Turf, Southington CT
The Aqua Turf Club 556 Mulberry St. Plantsville, CT 06479 (860) 621-9335 Cheryl and I made a stop at the Aqua Turf on a day when they weren’t holding any weddings or events so the grounds were empty. We were in and out in 15 minutes. My main purpose in stopping by was to photograph their beautiful windmill. Back in the 90’s I had a professional photography business and photographed a lot of weddings throughout CT. Although there are some very beautiful options out there, no doubt, I always felt that the Aqua Turf reigned high on the list, and for good reason. Go to their website and take a…

Rogers Orchards, Southington CT
Rogers Orchards 336 Long Bottom Rd. Southington, CT 06489 Open 9-6 daily (at time of writing) (860) 229-4240 Cheryl needed some fresh peaches to make peach cobbler so we thought we’d try an orchard that we’d never visited before. Rogers did not disappoint. First of all, what an orchard! I think they grow every type of apple that will grow in CT. The orchard seems to go as far as the eye can see. Like most orchards you can either pick your own or go into their country store. The store has (to name a few) apples, peaches, vegetables, local honey, cider, and one of their specialties is freshly made…
