Technology comes to an old barn

Cheryl and I were barn chasing in East Hampton CT and photographed this  barn which was topped with a solar panel on Hurd Park Rd. I’ve photographed a lot of barns and this is the first one I’ve seen with a solar panel.  I like the old tractor they had situated on the property. Photographed with a Sony Nex 7, 24 MP, mirrorless camera and a Sony 55-210 @ 100 mm. 1/250th, f11, ISO 400, Aperture priority

    The old Greenbacker Dairy barn?

This is a very attractive old barn whose silo’s peek out of the top right corner on Murdock Ave., in Meriden CT.  Across the street sits a building that once housed the Greenbacker farm dairy store.  As a kid in the 1960’s my parents would bring me here for delicious ice cream.  It was always a treat to visit the diary store from Wallingford…..good memories! This barn is situated directly across the street.  The diary farm store is no longer in existence but the building still stands and has another business in it.  I don’t know who currently owns this barn/farm but I suspect that it belonged to the Greenbackers…

Setting sun on a beautifully aged Meriden barn.

I had my list of barns to find this day and when I came upon this one it did not disappoint.  Not only had it aged beautifully but, typically, any barn scene with majestic silos will usually shine in an image. Just on the other side of the barn, (out of picture), were about a half dozen dairy cows in a small pasture. Photographed with a Sony Nex 7, 24MP, mirrorless camera and Sony 18-55 mm lens at 36mm. 1/320th, f11, ISO 400, Aperture priority.

Hidden gem in Deep River CT

This small, but beautifully aging, barn is situated on a residential lot in the countryside of Deep River CT. I love the way the wood has aged.  The only thing that would have made this even better is if the original roof was still in place. Photographed with a Sony Nex 7, 24.3 MP mirrorless camera and a Sony 18-55 mm lens. 1/160th, f8, ISO 400 at varying focal lengths.

Resting barn under the summers shade in Berlin CT

This well built old barn sits snuggled between two trees enjoying the shade on a hot summers day. Located on Chamberlain Hwy. in Berlin CT. You don’t see a lot of brick foundations for these old barns like this one has. Even more unusual is the custom window at the peak of the side wall. Unfortunately when I zoomed in I could see that the window was missing the bottom center and left window panel. The ground level window was also missing some panels. When I see this it makes me question how well the interior is holding up because it always becomes a haven for birds.Nevertheless it certainly looks…

    Drowning in ivy…………Berlin CT

This beautiful old barn is slowly becoming one with nature as foliage overcomes it. I would think it’s a pretty fair assumption that this barn has been put out to pasture. I’m glad that it, at least, has not been torn down (yet?). There is still a story her to be told and, as far as I’m concerned, these old barns have charm until they can’t stand any longer. This barn was one of a handful on Orchard Rd. in Berlin CT. Photographed with Nikon D7100 and a Nikon 18-55 lens at 40mm / 60mm equiv in 35. 1/160th, F11, ISO 100 A Two shots were taken: One of the…
