Woodtick “Scoville” Reservoir
Scoville Road
Wolcott CT

On June 9th of 2022 Cheryl and I decided to head over to the Woodtick Reservoir, known to locals as the “Scoville” Reservoicr. I had seen images of the reservoir area on the internet and saw some photo opp’s that I wanted to take advantage of.

It was a beautiful sunny Summers day, approx. 85 degrees with limited humidity. The reservoice is approx. 120 acres large and is surrounded by tall, well established trees, that have been there forever. The town, many years, back, must have made a trail that follows the lake around its circumference. This path was plenty wide enough to allow oncoming hikers to pass by you freely. In addition the tall tree’s kept us in cool shade throughout our 3.7 mile journey.

On this particular day we found it to be void of any crowds. Occasionally we’d run into other hikers or exercise enthusiasts and found them all to be very friendly and polite. Occasionally sharing words with these passersby made the journey all the more appealing.

I had a particular wooden boardwalk in mind to photograph but didn’t know exactly where it was. About an hour into our trek we came upon it. I knew it would make a nice shot. Fortunately a couple of women, out for their exercise, happened by. After chatting for a minute they went on their way crossing the boardwalk. I quickly framed up the shot in my camera, as they walked away, and waited for them to be exactly where I wanted them positioned in the shot (unbeknownest to them). CLICK went the shutter and I had a strong feeling that I nailed it. Once arriving home and loading the shot up on the computer I ended up with the shot you see.

Aside from the photography Cheryl and I had an awesome time walking with each other as we viewed a lot of nature in a very nice environment. This was an exceptional place to come for a nice long walk. We’re going to be back!
