The CT River Museum located in Essex, CT is an enjoyable museum to take in for folks of all ages.  The museum preserves and celebrates the cultural and natural heritage of the Connecticut River and its valley.  They offer historical manuscripts, books, art, and artifacts of regional significance.  They also have a reproduction of “The Turtle” shown in my photo gallery.  For further information on the turtle go to:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turtle_(submersible)

Pick a nice summers day to visit the museum.  Why?  Because, at least for me, part of the joy of visiting the museum was walking out on the dock and watching the sail boats bob up and down to the waves prior to venturing off.  You’ll feel the serenity as you watch the fisherman cast their lines, and children running on the grassy area fronting the museum.

What topped off the visit for me was a long time favorite of mine and many locals – downtown Essex.  Just a two minute walk over to main street is downtown Essex.  You’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time.  It’s quaint downtown streets give one the impression that time stops here.  You wonder if crime, traffic jams and hustle bustle just forgot Essex was on the map.  If you have a free afternoon you won’t go wrong in visiting the Museum and taking a walk in nearby “downtown”.
