Epic Sun Rise – Nubble Lighthouse, York ME
This was the most dramatic sun rise either Cheryl or myself have ever seen in our lives. We were staying at a roadside motel right on the main strip at York Beach ME. We had a 2nd story, corner room, which was closest to the beach and had a wrap around porch. I had only gotten about 4-1/2 hours sleep when I heard Cheryl walking around on outside. Moments later she comes storming in, barely unable to contain her excitement, stating “get up, get up, you’ve got to shoot this sun rise”! Honestly I was exhausted and tried to get her to leave but she kept saying “you’ll regret not…

The Sun Rising on Nubble Lighthouse………..ME
The Cape Neddick Nubble Lighthouse, York Beach, ME photographed from about two miles accross the ocean at York Beach during sunrise. We had been staying for a short time in York Beach at a motel on the strip by the beach. Cheryl woke me up at the crack of dawn saying “You’ve got to see this sunrise”! Sure enough it was worth seeing. We set up our tripod just across from our hotel on the beach’s sidewalk and took this image. Photographed with a Sony A7RII, 42.3 MP full framed mirrorless camera and a Sony 200-600 F5.6-6.3 telephoto lens at 600mm. 1/640th, f8, ISO 400, Aperture Priority

Nubble Lighthouse, York ME
Cape Neddick Nubble Lighthouse Sohier Park, York Beach York, ME 03909 PH: (207) 363-1040 June of 2021 Cheryl and I decided to drive up to York Maine for the purpose of photographing the Cape Neddick Nubble Lighthouse. Known to locals as simply “the Nubble” lighthouse. It was an absolutely beautfiul June day upon arrival replete with family’s, couples, singles and a fair amount of scuba divers on shore ready to jump in. It was moderately crowded but we managed to get, what seemed like, the last available parking slot. Once down on the rocks with the tripod set up it was just a matter of waiting patiently for visitors to…

Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse, Maine
Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse 2 Fort Rd, South Portland, ME 04106 Cheryl and I decided to spent a few days up in the Portland ME area this past September to photograph some lighthouses and take in the sights. Spring Point Ledge lighthouse is a beauty. We caught a nice day for photography and there were few people there which allowed me to get the images I wanted. If you’re into lighthouses this is one to see. Photographed with a Nikon D7100 and Nikon 80-400 mm telephoto lens, tripod mounted. 1/1250, F16, ISO 800 PHOTO TIPS: F 16 was used to get as much depth of field as possible without degrading…

Bug Light Lighthouse, So. Portland ME
Bug Light Lighthouse This lighthouse guides the ships into Portland Harbor which is right across the harbor to the left just out of view in this image. It is situated in Bug Light Park in South Portland ME. It’s a spacious park with a nice view of downtown Portland and is nestled in on the north and east side by the Atlantic Ocean. A great place to chill for a while, watch your kids play or maybe read a book. Cheryl enjoyed the serenity on the park bench while I did my thing with my Nikon. Downtown Portland Maine
Downtown Portland Maine Cheryl and I stayed a few days at the Westin Hotel in downtown Portland ME during mid September of 2018. We spent a lot of time in South Portland and surrounding towns as we preferred that to the city scene. This shot was taken from Bug Light Park. That’s the home of the Bug Light Lighthouse (see Bug Light Lighthouse post). The park was very serene with the Atlantic ocean on the north and east side. It also presented a beautiful view of downtown Portland. This is a vibrant city of around 68,000 and Maines most populated. The shot was taken about 15′ above the old abandoned…

Portland Head Light Lighthouse
Portland Head Light Lighthouse 1000 Shore Road Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107 This was the one lighthouse we wanted to nail during our stay in Portland ME. Portland Head Light Lighthouse is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the country. I think you can see why. If only I lived in the area I would photograph this lighthouse in all types of weather and lighting conditions. However, it’s a bit of trip for me to get here so I made the best of it. It’s located in Cape Elizabeth on the grounds of Fort Williams Park Cheryl and I stopped by on September 18 later in the afternoon and it…

Twin Lights Lighthouse, Cape Elizabeth ME
While staying in Portland for a few days, with my wife Cheryl, Twin Lights Lighthouse was on our list of must get shots. It’s also known as Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse depending on who you talk to. We were on a tiny peninsula. As you face the lighthouse to take the photograph there was an inlet of water between the lighthouse and the rocks I was standing on. Then the Atlantic Ocean was to my right and back side. The rocks had a unique striation to them. If you saw them in person they almost looked like wood. Everything you’d ever want to know about Twin Lights Lighthouse All images…
