The ultimate sacrifice………
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”] The word “thanks” seems so shallow and empty when I think of the 4,801 U.S. Military personnel that have lost their lives in the Iraq War since its inception in March of 2003. As of Dec. 01 this was the last count. During the same time period 32,223 military personnel have been wounded. A vast majority of the injuries consist of mental illness, traumatic brain injuries, and amputees. In addition suicides are at the highest rate all time that the military has ever experienced. I took this photograph because it’s hard to just drive by something like this without it stirring your heart. The bible says in John 15:13 “Greater…

Secret Societies of Yale University
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]SKULL & BONES. Cheryl and I decided to venture down to New Haven, CT and photograph the meeting places of the most well known secret societies of Yale’s University. They are, in order of prominence, Skull and Bones, Scroll and Keys, Wolf’s Head. Skull and Bones was founded in 1832. Members of some of Yales better known debating societies were in a dispute and decided to begin their own society.Shown to the left is the meeting place, (typically Tuesday and Thursday evenings), of Bonesmen at the Tomb since being built in 1856. A second wing was added in 1903 and a “gothic” tower was added in 1911…

To tripod or not to tripod?
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”] You don’t have to ask a pro or veteran photographer if they need a tripod as one of their tools. However beginning photographers may wonder if they can get away without one. Whether your budget restricts you or you just find it a pain to lug around then the answer is, of course, you can make due without a tripod. I certainly did for a long time when I first started out in photography. Back then it was because I had better uses for my money, like, oh how about raising kids. Tripods do come in a range of price tags. However you do get what you…

Driving through Litchfield County CT
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]Cheryl and I were on our way to the Connecticut Antique Machinery Association museum and had the pleasure of driving through beautiful Litchfield County. Although we’ve lived in CT most of our lives this part of the state never gets old to us. Because we were on our way somewhere I didn’t want to delay the trip too much by stopping over and over for photo’s. However as a photographer I see light and images everywhere I go whether I’m working or playing. Hence the need to always have a camera by my side. I had to pull over as my eyes gazed upon the majesty of…

Connecticut Antique Machinery Association
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]Cheryl and I visited CAMA (Connecticut Antique Machinery Association) in Kent, CT. For a link to their website go to: http://www.ctamachinery.com/. We had the pleasure of driving there during the summer from central Connecticut which afforded us the opportunity to take in the picturesque surroundings that Litchfield County has to offer. See my post “Driving through Litchfield County”. Their grounds are not too visible from the roadway but their sign is adjacent to the driveway just over an old set of railroad tracks. They are located about a mile north of the center of Kent. We were immediately greeted by a woman working in the reception “shed/barn”…

What’s the best camera to use?
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]The best camera to use is the one you have with you! That’s an old expression but very true. If you’re serious about recording the world around you then never go anywhere without a camera. If you happen to forget your camera then use your phone camera if you have to. There are many, many types of camera’s available today. This post is not intended to go there. It’s simply a generalization, intended for the newer or potential photographer to evaluate the “common” camera’s used. When I left professional photography about (7) years ago I was so burnt out I coudn’t even look at a camera. For at least…

Graffiti in New Haven
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”] While driving through New Haven, CT recently I spotted this rather colorful wall art on a building. Whoever did this obviously had artistic qualitities. I tried to “google” some of the words but couldn’t come up with translations. It’s been up a long time because I remember driving by it years ago so it can’t be anything offensive.

Darius Miller Music Shell – Walnut Hill Park
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]As a full time field salesman in Connecticut I most often grab lunch in my car. While in New Britain I decided to drive over to Walnut Hill Park so I could sit in my car and relax during lunch hour. While there I noticed that their outdoor theatre was rather interesting looking. As a result I took the attached photo. On Monday and Wednesday nights in July and August, the New Britain Parks and Recreation Department in Connecticut hosts a free summer music concert series. For a schedule of events please go to: http://www.new-britain.net/liv_prknrec.html. “The second most important structure in Walnut Hill Park is the Darius…
