Thimble Islands during spring of 2015.

[wzslider autoplay=”true” interval=”5000″ lightbox=”true”]Now that the weather was getting nice out I wanted to take my camera down to the Stony Creek neighborhood of Branford, CT and photograph the famed “Thimble Islands”. The weather was delightful and it was just a joy to line up these beautiful island homes in the sights of my 80-400 Nikon lens.  The Thimble Islands number between 100-300, depending on what you would classify as a large rock or an actual island.  Only about 23 are actually inhabited.  Most, if not all of these homes, are summer get a ways. If you’re into this type of photography then grab your tripod, and a long lens…

    Abandoned Old Car, Rhode Island

[wzslider autoplay=”true” interval=”4000″ lightbox=”true”]While traveling through a rural section of Rhode Island, mid May of 2015,  I saw this beautiful old classic car from the 50’s. If only she could talk.  Can you image the tales she could tell? Vehicle is located in the area of 23 Green Hill Rd., Johnston RI.  It sits on a grassy knoll by the road. As I’ve gotten older I hate to see these old gems wither away in junk yards or empty fields.  They are from a by gone era that only memories can restore for me. I guess I’ve reached the point in life where it just reminds me of “the good…

    Abandoned Barn, No.Branford, CT

While travelling on Rt. 80 in North Branford, CT, mid February of 2015, I spotted this beautiful old barn.  I stopped the car, got out, and took this picture from the other side of the highway. It’s cropped rather tightly because there were numerous electrical wires cutting through the tops of the tree line.  In addition there were telephone poles and filthy colored snow from the plows in the foreground.  Ultimately the easiest solution was a tight crop. Photographed with a Fujifilm F100fd, 12mp, pocket camera.

While driving through Goshen CT – Abandoned Truck

[wzslider autoplay=”true” height=”800″ lightbox=”true”]While driving through Goshen, CT, (est. pop. 3100), I noticed this brightly painted old truck in a field. Goshen has miles of woods and empty fields.  This plot of land seemed to be desolate.  Other than this old truck, which was back up to some type of withered portal, there was nothing else on the land. The overhang it was parked under was on the verge of collapse.  Whether the truck is still in use or not is unknown to me. It’s unusual paint job looked like something you’d see on the iconic Volkswagen busses of the 1960’s on the way to Woodstock.  I found it interesting.

Isolated in the woods of Cornwall

My sales work took me into the hills of Litchfield County, CT this day. As I was travelling through the rural Town of Cornwall, (pop. 1,450), I couldn’t help but notice this beautiful sweeping cornfield. As I looked closer I saw a home situated in the hills on the far side of the field. It was completely isolated with nothing around it as far as the eye could see. I’m more of a city guy but I’m sure this is a dream location for many folks. Double click on the photo for a larger view of what I saw.

Rocky Neck State Park in the Winter of 2015

[wzslider autoplay=”true” height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]Rocky Neck State Park, 244 West Main Street (Route 156), East Lyme, CT.   PH: (860) 739-5471 Hi gang!  I’m soooo behind on posting this vast collection of visits/pictures I’ve acquired.  Here it is nearly seven months later and the middle of summer and I’m finally getting around to posting this visit back from mid January. I really enjoy going to the beach in the middle of winter to take my photographs rather than summer.  Yes I know it seems odd but here’s the thing.  It’s completely empty.  When I’m photographing landscapes the emptier the better.  So during this visit I had the entire park to myself…

Memorial Day Parde 2015, Cheshire CT

[wzslider autoplay=”true” height=”800″ lightbox=”true”]Memorial Day Parade 2015, Cheshire CT.  It’s always a joy to come out and see the local parade.  Spirits always seem to run high that day as we remember those who sacrificed so much for us. Cheryl and I had, our usual great time. Video version with music:
