Beautiful old aging barn in Southbury
To me this barn is very striking. It appears to sit abandoned in the middle of the woods with no lead in road or path. Father time is having it’s way as the foliage creeps in around it and the paint fades. Two things I found unique. There is about 6′ overhang on the side nearest the viewer. You don’t see that on barns. The silo is also unique as well as the silos roof. Abandoned Old Church in Southbury CT
While Cheryl and I were on the hunt for barns in Southbury we stumbled upon this old gem. Which, of course, isn’t a barn. I thought, at first, that it was some type of meeting house back in the day. I wasn’t able to find anything on the internet about it so I reached out to the Southbury Historical Society. Their President was kind enough to write back to me. She informed me that this was a church from 1827 – 1942 and that the steeple had fallen off. It was eventually sold to the resident living next door. Its current status is a little sketchy. Octagon Barn in Southbury CT
Cheryl and I set our sails to Southbury CT, in early March, where we wanted to photograph this unique octagon barn. There were no trespassing signs around it’s circumference leading me to believe that the owner has seen his share of visitors over the years. I very subtly parked my car off the road down the street and walked over to the opposite side of the road to take the images. In and out in less than two minutes. Fall at the park…………
Early in my life I spent lived 15+ years in Meriden CT. Besides their library the one thing that I took considerable advantage of, and still do to this day, is Hubbard Park. It’s a beautiful sprawling park at with Castle Craig looking down upon it from atop the mountain. It’s visited by individuals, groups and families all week long. It was a real gift bestowed upon the City of Meriden by Mr. Hubbard back in the day. Eddie’s Abandoned Bakery Shop
What struck me odd about this abandoned bakery was not so much that it was abandoned but rather where it was located. The picture gives the impression that it’s in the middle of the woods but it sits in a rural residential neighborhood of Southington CT. There are beautiful homes up and down this street and no commerical or retail entities. So you wouldn’t expect this. I suspect it was built before the neighborhood really took off. Who know’s? A Return visit to Brooksvale (Park) Farm….more pics.
Brooksvale Park Farm, 524 Brooksvale Ave, Hamden, CT 06518 Cheryl and I initially visited these barns/farm to take this picture: The Barn at Brooksvale Park – Journey Thru My Lens (journeysthrumylens.com) . I returned a couple of weeks later and spent some time walking around the farm taking more images. I believe these barns were constructed by the Brooks family in the 1700’s. It’s very peaceful out here at the park and I would think would make a nice visit for families with small children mainly because of the animals. Butterflies & Birds
Cheryl and I went looking for unique birds and butterflies this day. I captured the brown monarch, spicebush swallowtail, butterfly using a Nikon D7100 with a Nikon 80-400 lens at 290mm (35mm equiv.=435mm). 1/3200th, f6.3, ISO 1800, Manual Mode. I also photographed the yellow, eastern tiger swallowtail, butterfly using a Nikon D7100 with a Nikon 80-400 lens at 400mm (35mm equiv .= 600mm.) 1/1000th, f6.3, ISO 1250, Manual Mode. Chery photographed the yellow bird, an American Goldfinch, using a Nikon D7100 with a Nikon 80-400 lens a 400mm (35mm equiv. = 600mm.) 1/1600th, f7.1, ISO 1600, Manual Mode.
