Beautifully maintained Tobacco Farm, Suffield CT area
The northern portion of CT straddling the CT river was rich in tobacco farming through the 19th and 20th century. As a result tobacco farms dotted the countryside and it’s almost impossible not to see dozens of them as you drive throughout the towns in this area. As a photographer and connoisseur of old barns I couldn’t help but take notice of the superior condition this tobacco barn was in. The owner has gone through great lengths to keep the exterior stained and the roof updated. Pretty much every old tobacco farm that I’ve seen has been withering in it’s natural state. Barn – Morris CT
This barn appears to be the remnants of what was once a dairy farm in Morris CT. The reason I say that is because the rusted sign on the barn say’s “We Use DeLaval Milkers”. This is an IL company who manufacturers diary and farming equipment such as milking machines. This barn, being as small as it is, makes me believe that the main cow barn has been torn down over the years. This was a beautiful location for a farm and there is a beautiful mountain to the rear. A pumpkin welcomes visitor to this rust Kent CT barn.
With fall in the air, and Halloween around the corner, Cheryl was excited not only to see Old Glory adorn the entrance of this rustic barn but a bright beautiful pumpkin sitting at the stoop as well. Golden leaves adorned the landscape, and a colorful sky shown through, this barn made quite an impact on us in the lovely town of Kent CT. The homeowners house, (out of sight to the right), had a sign that said 1835. I don’t know when the barn was actually constructed. Quintessential New England
I was doing my usual thing looking for old barns in the northeast country side of Connecticut when I saw this house situated on a main road. It was Early October and the leaves were just starting to turn. The style of the house, the flag on the front, the hand crafted stone wall, it all said New England to me. Quintessential New England! Beautifully maintained barn in Newtown CT
As I was barn searching along South Main St. on the outskirts of Newtown CT I was struck by the stellar condition of this very old barn. The property owners had maintained this in such a manner that it is not only gorgeous but will last for many more years to come. As I was across the street taking shots of the barn I caught the attention of the Lady of the house. She approached me wondering what I was up to. Barn on Whitmore Rd., Middlebury CT
This was another barn on our list for Cheryl and I today in the town of Middlebury CT. It’s situated on Whitmore Rd. with it’s “modern” looking garage door entrance. I suspect that the owners park their cars in there and needed a working automated garage door. However, it’s the garage door that gives this barn an unusual look. All in all it has a nice appearance tucked away amongst the surrounding foliage.
