The Comstock Bridge – East Hampton CT

Cheryl and I visited The Comstock Bridge, which spans the Salmon River. It is located in East Hampton CT just off of Rt. 16 on Comstock Bridge Rd.  Built in 1840 the bridge has undergone a number of updates. As you view the interior picture you get a sense of how much wood has been replaced from the original. It’s a very tranquil spot to spend a while and just reflect.  You can cross from one side to another and go underneath the bridge which is often times the site of fly fishermen but not today. Photographed with a Nikon D7100 and Nikon 18-55 typically at F11 and F16, Aperture…

Beautifully maintained barn in Newtown CT

As I was barn searching along South Main St. on the outskirts of Newtown CT I was struck by the stellar condition of this very old barn.  The property owners had maintained this in such a manner that it is not only gorgeous but will last for many more years to come. As I was across the street taking shots of the barn I caught the attention of the Lady of the house.  She approached me wondering what I was up to. I’m always fully transparent and told her about my passion for barns and this website.  She advised me that her husband was going to be home in a…

Done for the day in Shelton.

The sunsets on another day of farming in the country side of Shelton CT. The hay conveyor sits idol as daylight fades.  These two barns are in pretty good condition. Photographed with a Nikon D7100 and a Tokina AT-X-11-20 F2.8 Pro DX at 16 mm (35 mm equiv. = 24 mm). 1/80th, f11, ISO 100, Aperture Priority.

    Rooster Rise Farm, Berlin CT

Looks like this beautiful large aging red barn, situated on the Rooster Rise Farm, has weathered many a storm and is still proudly standing. It has a very grand design and a thing of beauty in the countryside of Berlin, CT. I’m not from Berlin so I don’t know exactly what they farm at the Rooster Rise Farm. I didn’t see any cattle so I’m presuming its vegetables these days. That’s just a guess however. The roof looked to be in good condition, not counting the deteriorating roof of the one level structure in front of it that you can barely see through the tall grass. I hope the owners…

Barn on North Harwinton Rd., Plymouth CT

Old red barn and silo makes for a beautiful scene as the sun sets behind it on North Harwinton Rd. in Plymouth CT. Just to the right of the barn, under the tree, you can see the white of the farm house peeking through. Photographed with a Nikon D7100 and Nikon 18-55 @ 18 (in 35mm: 27). 1/125th, fll, ISO 100, Aperture priority

Beautiful large old barn on Tranquility Rd., Middlebury CT

This large well maintained beauty of a barn and Silo sits quietly at the end of a long autumn New England day on Tranquility Rd., in Middlebury CT. I’d love to know when this was built. I suspect it’s older than it looks as, I’m sure, this was all farm land back in the day. It is maintained unusually well for an old barn. All the white trim around the windows and doors are updated and in perfect condition. There’s not a broken window pane anywhere which means they don’t critters nesting inside and ruining the interior. The wood shakes have been flawlessly maintained. The inside must be all post…
