    Stratford Point Lighthouse

STRATFORD POINT LIGHTHOUSE End of Prospect Drive Stratford, CT The Stratford Point Lighthouse was constructed, on the present day site, back in 1881.  It is owned and operated by the U.S.Coast Guard and is in use today as a navigational aid.  It sits at the mouth of the Housatonic River where it meets the Stratford Harbord. The Lighthouse is 35′ tall and is made of cast iron with a brick lined interior.  The inside is fairly void with the exception of a wrought iron spiraling staircase up to the light.  It is my understanding that the accompanying home, most likely, is lived in by U.S.Coast Guard personnel. Photographed with Nikon…

    Hawks – Stratford CT shoreline

[wzslider autoplay=”true” interval=”7000″ height=”800″ lightbox=”true”]My friend Ron, (one of the best surf casting photographers you’ll ever find), treated me to a late afternoon birding session at a Stratford CT shoreline to photograph hawks.  This is an area that Ron frequents often and it has a lot of hawk activity while at the same time very few people. Ron knows a lot more about this type of photography than me and taught me where to sit and the best way to photograph them without intruding on their space.  There were a couple of nests nearby that these fish hawks occupied. Some of the photo’s show a catch that one hawk was…

    Washington Bridge – Stratford, CT

[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”] Cheryl and I decided to photograph the Washington Bridge today. Locals sometimes refer to the bridge as the Devon Bridge because it connects the Devon section of Milford, CT with the Town of Stratford. The bridge is approx. 859′ long and 43′ wide. It consists of two northbound and two southbound vehicular lanes and one pedestrian path. Locally this is a segment of Rt.1. Historically speaking the first bridge located here was built in 1813 out of wood. The bridge was rebuilt on two occasions. The first time resulted from most of the bridge drifting out to sea after being struck by large chunks of floating…

    Abandoned Building – Stratford, CT

[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]While working as a salesman in Stratford, CT I observed this abandoned building. Research has determined that this is the old Ross and Roberts Manufacturing plant which had closed their doors for good, in early 2008 due to increased taxation and operating costs. Best I can determine they manufactured:  Fabric,Laminating & Bonding (Mfrs), Coated & Laminated Paper NEC (Mfrs), Plastics-Products-Retail. This building occupies the space between the redemption center and a Dunkin Donuts on 1299 West Broad St. The area was posted “private property” so I did not choose to venture off the roadway. The remnants of a rather large foundation are evidence that a good sized building…
