The Famous “Blackies Hot Dog Stand”, Cheshire CT

Blackies Restaurant (est. 1928) 2200 Waterbury Rd., Cheshire CT 06410 Blackies neon lights shine bright against the dark backdrop of this fall evening. It was 7:45 PM on Saturday when I was setting up my tripod in the parking lot. The restaurant would be closing in fifteen minutes and right now all the customers had all the hot dogs they could handle for one day. My wife Cheryl, per usual, came along for the ride. Blackies was established at this very spot in 1928 by Arthur Blackman, a local Waterbury resident, and his wife Mary Mahoney who had come to America from Ireland to pursue her dream life. Although changing…

    Boothbay ME

Cheryl and I were looking for a little downtime and found it in the quiet, quaint, seafaring village of Boothbay ME. Population approx. 3000 people many of which don’t live there year round. It is a summer tourist attraction although we arrived in mid September and most of that bustling activity was behind us. We stayed at the Tugboat Inn. Our part of the hotel was built on a peer that went out into the harbor consisting of about 16 rooms (best of my recollection). Eight rooms on the south side where we stayed and I believe more rooms on the north side as there were two floors and a…

    Boathouse in York ME

While driving around scoping out potential shots we drove by this old boathouse and immediately knew it had shot potential. We then got up early one of the mornings, during our stay at York ME, and headed over. Of course, the buoy’s are what makes it so eye catching. We were fortunate to get there before the workers or boaters arrived and had the place to ourselves. Photographed with a Sony A7RII, 42.3MP, full framed mirrorless camera and a Sony 24-105mm F4 lens @ 24mm. 1/500th, f11, ISO 400, Aperture priority

Model train meets real world. Original trains station downtown, Wallingford CT

Using photoshop I merged a close up photo of an N scale (1:160) model train with an actual image of Wallingford CT’s downtown railroad station. The locomotive EMD SD P4 F and each passenger car is about 5″ long and about 1″ tall. They type 1 phase II which represents the type of engine, cars and paint scheme that rain the tracks of Amtrack in CT during the late 70’s and 80’s. The Wallingford Railroad Station, built in 1871 by the Hartford & New Haven Railroad on the Springfield Line is an historic building as still stands today. It was a daily stop along Amtrak’s New Haven, Hartford, Springfield line…
