Beautiful barn with (3) silos, Haddam CT

This folks is the reason I chase barns and capture their imges to retain throughout history, even long after some of them are gone. They are simply beautiful. Here’s what sets this barn apart for me. It sloping roof. It’s cluster of three silos. Two are fairly common but three not so much and of varying heights and widths. I know I probably need therapy but silo’s do it for me. I think my barn pictures always have more character and story telling potential when a silo is involved. Lastly that old gnarly tree winding up the front left of the barn. Sweeeeeeet! In my research I couldn’t ascertain who…

    Old Cow Farm, Bethlehem

I was on my way to photograph another barn in Bethlehem when I spotted this farm scene off in a distance. It doesn’t appear that the buildings are actively being used but the presence of a tractor implies to me that the grounds are still being upkept. Photographed with a Sony A7RV, l24-70 f2.8 GMII lens at 55mm 1/100th, f16, ISO 100, Manual Mode

    Auer Farm, Bloomfield CT

Auer Farm 158 Auer Farm Rd. Bloomfield, CT 06002. Open seven days a week from 7 AM to 7 PM Myself, Cheryl and Molly took a ride out to the Auer Farm to see if we could get a decent picture of the barn as well as a little frolic time for Molloy to investigate the goats and donkeys etc. When we arrived there was a large birthday party for “Jacob” that saw guests pretty much occupying what was once the farms cow barn. As a result we never went inside. Cheryl and Molly walked about the grounds looking for interaction with Molloy, (our Golden Doodle puppy), and seemed to…

Barn Beauties on the CT coastline (5 STARS)

These two barns sit almost directly across from one another along a well travelled CT coastal country road. If you’re one to pay any attention to old barns what will immediately strike you is their absolute pristine, new like, appearance. The roofs are brand new, the cladding does not show one board that is so much as slightly warped. None of the boards even have signs of aging at ground level where you tend to see it most. New looking storm windows are in place and on the larger barn there were even some small windows that were added which are not typical of barns. The sliding front doors on…

Beautiful old barn & silo, East Windsor CT

This barn and silo served two functions. The silo held some type of granular food which must have been for the farmers animals or potential storage and sale of whatever was inside. When I zoomed into the image, in hi-resolution, I could see a series of vertical boards in the upper half of the side wall that were obviously opened at times to allow for the drying of tobacco. So I would think this resourceful farm had more than one crop and possibly livestock as well. Either way to me it’s a beautiful site! I photographed this image with a Sony Nex-7, 24.3mp mirrorless camera and a Sony 18-55 f3.5-5.6…

    Abandoned Silo in Oxford

I was travelling through Oxford CT with Cheryl and our dog Molloy when we came upon this cool old abandoned Silo. There was an industrial park built all around it which is not really visible from the picture. In fact I was standing on the property of a company while taking these pictures. This seems to be all that remains of what was once a working farm. Photographed with a Sony Nex 7,APS-C 24.3 mp mirrorless camera and a Sony 18-55 lens at 18mm (APS-C equiv. = 27mm). Handheld 1/20th, f11, ISO 100, APERTURE PRIORITY

Horses Grazing at The Butterfly Farm, Lincoln RI

The Butterfly Farm 667 Great Rd., (Rte. 123) Lincoln, RI 02865 While in Lincoln RI I spotted this beautiful farm scene that I had photographed years ago. However, this time it had two horses grazing in the field. In addition the sky was warm and the fence in the foreground had an interested break. These are the kinds of scenes I relish and look for. There is a lot going on at the Butterfly Farm. Beautiful old aging barn in Southbury

To me this barn is very striking.  It appears to sit abandoned in the middle of the woods with no lead in road or path.  Father time is having it’s way as the foliage creeps in around it and the paint fades.  Two things I found unique.  There is about 6′ overhang on the side nearest the viewer.  You don’t see that on barns.  The silo is also unique as well as the silos roof.  The silo almost has a “home made” look to it but I’m sure was functional and I think gives this barn a lot of character. It’s a true relic. Photographed in the winter with a…
