    Nicely postured barn.

This barn is only about 20′ or so from Maple Ave. which is a fairly busy street.  I think whoever built it had a wonderful design. It looks large and grand, with it’s tall walls, while at the same time is not overpowering for being a “neighborhood” barn.  This is now the 2nd time I’ve seen a flat stone foundation like this in  Shelton and that isn’t typical in general.  I have to tell you I’m a big fan.  The adjoining stone wall ties everything in so beautifully.  I think the foliage also helps downplay it’s size.  The cupola is gorgeous and different from what I’m used to seeing in…

Barn on North Harwinton Rd., Plymouth CT

Old red barn and silo makes for a beautiful scene as the sun sets behind it on North Harwinton Rd. in Plymouth CT. Just to the right of the barn, under the tree, you can see the white of the farm house peeking through. Photographed with a Nikon D7100 and Nikon 18-55 @ 18 (in 35mm: 27). 1/125th, fll, ISO 100, Aperture priority

Beautiful large old barn on Tranquility Rd., Middlebury CT

This large well maintained beauty of a barn and Silo sits quietly at the end of a long autumn New England day on Tranquility Rd., in Middlebury CT. I’d love to know when this was built. I suspect it’s older than it looks as, I’m sure, this was all farm land back in the day. It is maintained unusually well for an old barn. All the white trim around the windows and doors are updated and in perfect condition. There’s not a broken window pane anywhere which means they don’t critters nesting inside and ruining the interior. The wood shakes have been flawlessly maintained. The inside must be all post…

    Richs Farm, Oxford CT

Rich Farm Ice Cream 691 Oxford Road (Rt 67) Oxford, Connecticut 06478 When Cheryl and I pulled the car along the side of Rt 67 to photograph this absolutely gorgeous barn it started raining.  I rolled down the drivers side window and was able to squeeze off two shots but it was raining to hard that I had to close the window and call it a day.  Fortunately when I got home I was glad to see that I got a decent shot. Nature has aged this barn beautifully in Middletown CT

Nature has taken it’s toll on this wonderful old small barn on or in the area of Bell St. in Middletown CT.  New England’s tough winters have nearly collapsed the roof but, like us New Englanders, it will stand proud until it can’t stand any more. Once, most likely, the home for farm tools, it stands as a reminder of what once was. Photographed with a Nikon D7100 and Nikon 18-55 @ 22mm 1/500th, f10, ISO 200, Aperture Priority

    Sunshine Dairy Barn, Middletown CT

Absolutely beautiful farm belonging to the Sunshine Dairy Farm in Middletown CT.  I’m not sure if this farm is currently in use but, to the best of my knowledge, they had a rich history providing diary products to the Middletown area for many, many years. Photographed with Nikon D7100, Nikon 18-55, 3.5 – 5.6 @ 24mm 1/200th, f10, ISO 200, Aperture priority

Nicely maintained barn in Middleton CT

Looks like the owner of this attractive barn on the corner of Country Club Rd. and Bell St. in Middletown CT has kept up with the wood exterior nicely.  It seems to have a nice even coat of stain and is aging nicely. Photographed with a Nikon D7100 and a Nikon 18-55, 3.5 – 5.6 @ 26 mm. 1/320th, f8, ISO 200, Aperture Priority

Horse farm barn in Middletown CT

I don’t typically see this large gambrel style barn on horse farms so it was nice to come upon it.  This style is more typical of cow farms. I think it is a beautifully built barn and I particularly like it’s grand front entrance.  The sign on the front wall says “Old Farms Riding Club Middletown CT”. There wasn’t much activity the day I was there but this horse riding club appears to be active.  A residential neighborhood has cropped up around it but, I’m sure, at one time this was all rural land.
