Saybrook Breakwater Lighthouse, Old Saybrook CT
The Saybrook Breakwater Lighthouse is located at the base of the Connecticut River where it meets Long Island Sound. Constructed in 1886 it has a cast iron outter shell and a brick interior lining. At 48′ in height it’s architecture is known as “spark plug” style. The Lighthouse went to public auction and was purchase in September of 2015 for slightly less than $300,000.00. There are no good vantage points from land unless you are allowed access to the many private roads and residential communities that afford a view. As usual, I chose not to trespass into these neighborhoods and was forced to momentarily stop my car on Rt. 146…
