Peace and quiet in Morris CT

Morris CT is a town in Litchfield county with a population of around 2500 residents. Having spent the better part of an afternoon chasing barns here with Cheryl I can tell you that Morris is very rural and wooded. There was very little in the way of commercial business. We came upon this very nice wood clad home nestled at the base of a mountain surrounded by nothing but country side. If you’re looking for peace and quiet then these folks found it. There seems to be some type of corral out front perhaps where they ride or did ride horses at one time?? Photographed with a Sony A7RV 61mp…

    Christian Barn in Harwinton CT

I love everything about this stoic looking barn sitting high on a Harwinton CT hillside. It has quite a presence and the addition of a cross made crudely out of two pieces of unfinished lumber tells it all. Perhaps there is a message as the bright light from above breaks through the clouds and makes it’s presence on the barn. Photographed with a Sony A7RII, 42MP, full framed, mirrorless camera and a Sony 24-105 F4 lens @ 43mm. ISO 200, 1/160th, f11, Aperture Priority

Beautiful abandoned house in Harwinton CT

While barn hunting in Harwinton CT I came upon this gorgeous abandoned house. I’m sure it’s fairly old as it rests on a stone foundation. Back in the day I’m sure this was a beautiful home but, for whatever reason, the current owners have elected to let it slowly deteriorate. As tattered curtains hang from the windows this home awaits a better day. I’m sure it can be brought back if someone is willing to invest the money. It doesn’t seem that far gone to me but depends on the inside. It’s situated on a good sized lot in a nice neighborhood.

Pristine Colorfully Warm Barn – Woodbury CT

This is the second of three barns that Cheryl and I were able to photograph today in Woodbury CT. This main barn is actually much longer than it appears from this camera angle. If you look closely you can see where it juts out in the rear and the length continues considerably. This entire property from the grounds, to the farm house and the three barns is absolutely pristine. You can’t even find a paint chip. It was quite obvious that these barns are quite old but no worse for wear. They almost appear brand new, at a glance, due to the exceptional level of maintenance that was afforded them.…

One of Harwinton CT’s best ………..

This beauty was on our list of shots that day in Harwinton CT. As I pulled up I knew I had a winner but the sun was destroying the shot. It was in the low 90’s that afternoon. There were some clouds overhead. Cheryl patiently waited in the car as I stood on the street edge for at least 25 minutes waiting for cloud cover. Eventually it happened. I had nice diffused daylight for about 30 seconds. I got the shot I needed and was on my way. Some barn scenes click with you, some don’t. There was something about this barn that I liked. Harwinton Barn scene

Just as a side note I’ve been shooting barns a long time in CT and Harwinton has got to have the most barns of any town I can remember. This particular scene is part of a several acre lot home to horse stables and riding area’s. However, this was the only barn I had a decent shot on without entering the property. I had the pleasure of working with my beautiful wife Cheryl today. Photographed with a Sony A7RII 42.4 MP full frame and a Sony 24-105 F4 lens @ 57mm. 1/400th, f11, ISO 640, Aperture Priority

An interesting barn lies almost out of view …………

It was a hot Saturday afternoon in Harwinton CT while Cheryl sat in the cool of the car and I hopped out for a second to take this shot through the trees. This was not a planned shot, we happened upon this barn while on our way to another location. There was no access to the barn and it was only visible through a slight opening in the trees. Unfortunately there was a much larger, white colored, barn in the back ground which interrupts the flow of the image slightly. At first glance I thought this was an “A” frame barn which I can’t remember ever seeing. However, when I…
