A walk in the park.
If you’re a reader of my blog you know that I love Hubbard Park. I grew up in Meriden and Wallingford and have come here a 1000 times. This was a Thursday afternoon at lunch time in early February. I decided to leave work for an hour and get a little relaxation with the camera. It was fairly void of people except for some lunch time walkers. I drove around the park once looking for what I could possibly make a shot out of and came up with this. In the spring and summer you’ll see couples getting married at this gazebo or having their formal wedding pictures done there.…

Fall at the park…………
Early in my life I spent lived 15+ years in Meriden CT. Besides their library the one thing that I took considerable advantage of, and still do to this day, is Hubbard Park. It’s a beautiful sprawling park at with Castle Craig looking down upon it from atop the mountain. It’s visited by individuals, groups and families all week long. It was a real gift bestowed upon the City of Meriden by Mr. Hubbard back in the day. If you were to visit the park and take the approx. 1.5 mile road that leads up to Castle Craig one of the first vista’s you’ll pass is the Meriden Reservoir on…

The Barn at Brooksvale Park
It was late August and Cheryl and I went over to the Brooksvale Park in Hamden CT to photograph this historic barn. It was a joint effort as Cheryl framed this beautiful scene layout and I took the image. The Brooksvale Barn was built at some time in the 1700’s making it one of the oldest barns I’ve ever photographed. It sits on 500 acres of land most of which is wooded and used for trail walking. The barn was part of a working farm, owned by the Brooks family, which was handed down from generation to generation. The Town of Hamden started purchasing parcels of the land from the…

New Haven Green
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”] Burial Ground or downtown green? How about both. New Haven, CT”s downtown green consisting of the lower and upper halves reportedly has between 5,000 and 10,000 buried bodies. The plaque, shown to the left, is on the back of historic Center Church. The church is built on pillars to allow for the headstones to remain in tact. There are several hundred visible graves. As for the green itself it was the communities active burial ground from the time New Haven was founded in 1638 until bout 150 years later. At that time the time the majority of headstones were moved to Grove Cemetary but the remains…

Darius Miller Music Shell – Walnut Hill Park
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]As a full time field salesman in Connecticut I most often grab lunch in my car. While in New Britain I decided to drive over to Walnut Hill Park so I could sit in my car and relax during lunch hour. While there I noticed that their outdoor theatre was rather interesting looking. As a result I took the attached photo. On Monday and Wednesday nights in July and August, the New Britain Parks and Recreation Department in Connecticut hosts a free summer music concert series. For a schedule of events please go to: http://www.new-britain.net/liv_prknrec.html. “The second most important structure in Walnut Hill Park is the Darius…

Giuffrida Park
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]Guifrida Park is a bit of a hidden gem located on the east side of Meriden, CT utilized most by locals. It comprises about 600 acres and it’s beautiful lake is most prominent as many walking trails wind around it. The park is great for picnics, sunbathing, hiking, nature walks, and just general exploration. In the winter the terrain is great for snow shoe hikes. There are a couple of outlooks along the trails offering beautiful views. I stopped by today to see if I could grab a last minute “fall foliage” photo before it slips away on us into winter. I was surprised to see mid-day…
