• Barns,  Journey's

Surrounding foliage keeps this barn upright.

This sun sets on this old barn in RT 80 in North Branford CT. I think it’s close to it’s final curtain call.  If you saw the other side, which I was unable to photograph without entering their property, you’d see the entire wall was missing and most of the roof.  I don’t know how much longer this barn has before complete collapse.  I’m reasonably sure that the upcoming New England winter will cause it to reach it’s tipping point.   Too bad because it must have a been a beauty in its day.  I like old barns in various states of decline so, to me, the barn still looks beautiful.…

    Barn in North Branford CT

Let me start off by saying that I changed this image considerably in photoshop by adding many details that weren’t originally there for artistic effect. The main barn is the same but that’s about it. Photographed in North Branford CT. Photographed with a Nikon D7100 and a Nikon 18-55 @ 18mm (35mm equiv.= 27 mm) 1/250th, f11, ISO 800, Aperture Priority

Thimble Islands during spring of 2015.

[wzslider autoplay=”true” interval=”5000″ lightbox=”true”]Now that the weather was getting nice out I wanted to take my camera down to the Stony Creek neighborhood of Branford, CT and photograph the famed “Thimble Islands”. The weather was delightful and it was just a joy to line up these beautiful island homes in the sights of my 80-400 Nikon lens.  The Thimble Islands number between 100-300, depending on what you would classify as a large rock or an actual island.  Only about 23 are actually inhabited.  Most, if not all of these homes, are summer get a ways. If you’re into this type of photography then grab your tripod, and a long lens…

    Abandoned Barn, No.Branford, CT

While travelling on Rt. 80 in North Branford, CT, mid February of 2015, I spotted this beautiful old barn.  I stopped the car, got out, and took this picture from the other side of the highway. It’s cropped rather tightly because there were numerous electrical wires cutting through the tops of the tree line.  In addition there were telephone poles and filthy colored snow from the plows in the foreground.  Ultimately the easiest solution was a tight crop. Photographed with a Fujifilm F100fd, 12mp, pocket camera.
