Horse barn Rt. 6, Andover CT

Barn on Rt. 6 in Andover CT Rt. 6 is a busy, high speed road and the only way to get this shot, (without trespassing), is to stand on the edge of Rt. 6 while vehicles rush past you just feet away around 50 mph. TIP:  If I’m shooting on the road, any road, I wear a brightly colored reflective safety vest.  I also purchased, for merely $8.00, an orange collapsible safety cone which I put on the roadway about 30 ‘ before my vehicle to alert oncoming cars.  Keep your four way flashers going as well. In this particular shot I parked the car up the street, off the…

    Downtown Portland Maine

Downtown Portland Maine Cheryl and I stayed a few days at the Westin Hotel in downtown Portland ME during mid September of 2018.  We spent a lot of time in South Portland and surrounding towns as we preferred that to the city scene.  This shot was taken from Bug Light Park. That’s the home of the Bug Light Lighthouse (see Bug Light Lighthouse post).  The park was very serene with the Atlantic ocean on the north and east side.  It also presented a beautiful view of downtown Portland. This is a vibrant city of around 68,000 and Maines most populated. The shot was taken about 15′ above the old abandoned…

    Portland Head Light Lighthouse

Portland Head Light Lighthouse 1000 Shore Road Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107 This was the one lighthouse we wanted to nail during our stay in Portland ME.  Portland Head Light Lighthouse is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the country.  I think you can see why. If only I lived in the area I would photograph this lighthouse in all types of weather and lighting conditions.  However, it’s a bit of trip for me to get here so I made the best of it. It’s located in Cape Elizabeth on the grounds of Fort Williams Park Cheryl and I stopped by on September 18 later in the afternoon and it…

Old farm & barn, Durham CT

An old tractor sits quietly in a farm on the Chamberlain Highway in Berlin CT. The barn in the back ground has been unoccupied for years and years. I had always thought, by virtue of the construction, that this barn once occupied chicken coups. If any of you have any history on this barn please write in. Photographed with A Nikon D7100, 24MP camera and an 18-55 lens at 55 mm (35 mm = 82 mm). 1/160th, f11, ISO 1000

    Barn in Bethlehem CT

Cheryl and I were out “barn hunting” in Bethlehem CT and came upon this beautiful white barn. It appeared that the 2nd floor was full of hay bails. Like my father before me I worked on a dairy farm as a kid. I remember being at the top of one of those conveyors receiving bails of hay and having to stack them as fast as I could to keep up with the farmer below. It was hot and the air was not very healthy but it was a memory I wouldn’t trade. Photographed with Nikon D7100, 24MP camera and 18-55 mm lens shot @ 35mm (35mm equiv = 52 mm).…
