Sunrise Farm – Farmington/Avon CT area
I love signs painted on barns. In this area they are not easy to come by. I thought the cupola was particularly nice. Unfortunately due to heavy brush growth on both sides straight on was the only shot I had. I was unable to gather any info. off the internet as to the history of this barn. One person did write that it was built in 1876 but I don’t have any proof to support that. Quintessential New England
I was doing my usual thing looking for old barns in the northeast country side of Connecticut when I saw this house situated on a main road. It was Early October and the leaves were just starting to turn. The style of the house, the flag on the front, the hand crafted stone wall, it all said New England to me. Quintessential New England! Cow Barn, Coventry CT
Cheryl and I were barn hunting in Coventry CT and added this to our already nice collection of Coventry barns from a previous trip. It appeared to me that this cow barn was still in use. Could possibly use a little paint but, all in all, was holding up fairly well. I was happy to see “Old Glory” proudly flying near the front entrance. The Bomba Bros. Farm 79 Great Hill Rd, Seymour, CT 06483 This article will take you on a short snippet of a family’s century long journey. What you will read encapsulates why I’ve spent years traveling around Southern CT photographing barns and farms. To me it represents a simpler time, a less cluttered time. A time when the work at hand was tackled by strong, disciplined families, with a work ethic that can only be emulated. The Comstock Bridge – East Hampton CT
Cheryl and I visited The Comstock Bridge, which spans the Salmon River. It is located in East Hampton CT just off of Rt. 16 on Comstock Bridge Rd. Built in 1840 the bridge has undergone a number of updates. As you view the interior picture you get a sense of how much wood has been replaced from the original. It’s a very tranquil spot to spend a while and just reflect. You can cross from one side to another and go underneath the bridge which is often times the site of fly fishermen but not today. Nicely postured barn.
This barn is only about 20′ or so from Maple Ave. which is a fairly busy street. I think whoever built it had a wonderful design. It looks large and grand, with it’s tall walls, while at the same time is not overpowering for being a “neighborhood” barn. This is now the 2nd time I’ve seen a flat stone foundation like this in Shelton and that isn’t typical in general. I have to tell you I’m a big fan.
