[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]I just happened to be driving down Quinnipiac Ave. in Fair Haven, (a neighborhood in New Haven), CT while working recently when I noticed this neat little dock out of the corner of my eye. I turned around to give it another look and felt it would make a nice photograph. I had a few more sales calls in the area so I returned later that afternoon. This dock is in the Quinnipiac River about a mile north of the Grand Ave. draw bridge. It is nestled in a fairly congested residential neighborhood. There were no boats or people in the immediate vicinity of the dock so…

Abandoned Power Plant – New Haven
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”] English Station 10 Grand Street Fair Haven section of New Haven, CT With it’s idle looming smokestacks, decaying brick and mortar, and an eerie silence this old power plant exudes a rather ominous feel to the passer by. Known as “English Station” the thermal power plant was built from 1924 – 1929 and ceased operation in 1992. Having been abandoned for 21 years the owners and the State of CT are apparently perplexed as to how to handle the PCB laden contaminated oil and asbestos at the facility. Eight large transformers were drained but there were no takers to purchase the oil and it was never…

[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]Fantasy of Lights Lighthouse Point Park 2 Lighthouse Rd New Haven, CT 06512 2012 fees:$10 passenger cars/family vans; $25 for 15-passenger vans or mini-buses; $50 for buses. The entry fee benefits the Easter Seals. On a brisk winters evening Cheryl and I took a ride through Lighthouse Point Park to view the much touted holiday light display. There are at least (25) various light scenes. Each scene is created and sponsored by an area business. Tune your radio into the appropriate station and music and narration will accompany your travels through the display. It was quite crowded when we drove through. I really wasn’t able to get shots off…

New Haven, CT”s downtown green consisting of the lower and upper halves reportedly has between 5,000 and 10,000 buried bodies. The plaque, shown to the left, is on the back of historic Center Church. The church is built on pillars to allow for the headstones to remain in tact. There are several hundred visible graves. As for the green itself it was the communities active burial ground from the time New Haven was founded in 1638 until bout 150 years later. At that time the time the majority of headstones were moved to Grove Cemetary but the remains…

Graffiti in New Haven
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”] While driving through New Haven, CT recently I spotted this rather colorful wall art on a building. Whoever did this obviously had artistic qualitities. I tried to “google” some of the words but couldn’t come up with translations. It’s been up a long time because I remember driving by it years ago so it can’t be anything offensive.
