It’s fall at the castle.
I set up my tripod on the sidewalk at the south end of Hubbard Park’s pond aimed at the Castle waiting for the light. In short time it lit portions of the foliage beneath the Castle causing their beauty to speak to you. The shutter was snapped and yes I was lucky enough to catch that hawk circling the castle he was not added in later. Walter Hubbard, a local business magnate, donated all 1800 acres to the City of Meriden in 1900 with the one stipulation that the City could not reap any financial rewards from the towns folks and I think they’ve lived up to that commitment. Bird in Flight Photography – Hubbard Park
[wzslider autoplay=”true” height=”800″ lightbox=”true”] This was my first attempt at bird in flight photography or what is known amongst photographers as “birding”. My current systems didn’t have fast enough autofocus to handle birds in flight. However, I purchased the new Nikon D7100 which shoots 6fps, has 51 point AF and autofocuses with lenses F8 or faster. This feature is normally only found on hi-end pro camera’s whereas most camera’s in this price range only AF at 5.6 or faster. This allows more lens choices or perhaps a multiplier. I coupled this with the also new Nikon 80-400, AFS-VR, 4.0-5.6 lens. I took about 400 photo’s this afternoon and surprisingly had…

Castle Craig – Meriden, CT
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]Castle Craig, dedicated October 29, 1900 and given to the people of Meriden, Connecticut by Walter Hubbard is part of the 1,800-acres known as Hubbard Park named after Hubbard. There are hiking trails to the tower (most notably the 51-mile (82 km) Metacomet Trail) as well as Reservoir Road which is open for vehicular traffic from April to October – 10 AM to 4:45 PM. Walkers and joggers are allowed use of this road 365 days of the year during normal park operating hours which is basically sunrise to sunset.
