Abandoned BG Graphics Sign Company, Meriden CT
For years and years I’ve driven by this abandoned BG Graphics building on the Berlin Turnpike in Meriden CT. I finally took the time to photograph it. When I see a building that has become completely engulfed by the surrounding environment I’m always intrigued. In front of the building was, at one time, a paved parking lot. However, nature has taken that over as well. I’m sure this company was thriving back in the day and, for whatever reason, it’s just a memory. Old barn in Avon.
Cheryl and I were driving through Avon just enjoying the fall day. Virtually every barn we passed I had photographed before years ago, including this one. However, we liked this particular camera angle and the fall weather so I decided to photograph it once again. Photographed with a Sony A7RV, 61mp mirrorless camera in APS-C crop mode. It’s fall at the castle.
I set up my tripod on the sidewalk at the south end of Hubbard Park’s pond aimed at the Castle waiting for the light. In short time it lit portions of the foliage beneath the Castle causing their beauty to speak to you. The shutter was snapped and yes I was lucky enough to catch that hawk circling the castle he was not added in later. Walter Hubbard, a local business magnate, donated all 1800 acres to the City of Meriden in 1900 with the one stipulation that the City could not reap any financial rewards from the towns folks and I think they’ve lived up to that commitment. Refurbishing the iconic Greyledge Farm Barn!
So I set my sail to Roxbury CT on this absolutely gorgeous fall day in hopes of photographing the iconic Greyledge Farm Barn. Well, much to my surprise, upon arriving, the barn was being refurbished. There were workers removing and replacing individual boards on the exterior cladding. How many workers did you count? If you counted (7) you were correct! Look carefully and you’ll find them all. So the other big surprise was that the American Flag, which this barn is known for, is missing from the front end where you see the (3) workers on the ladder. One with the land in Harwinton CT
Not sure if this would be classified as a barn or a storage shed but either way I was struck by it’s beautiful appearance. Tucked into a small hill and adorned with ivy it was unusual and had eye appeal. Harwinton CT is its home. Takes a hit but is still standing…………………….
Cheryl and I were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful this old barn looked when we pulled up to it. It was first on our list of barns this Saturday afternoon in Burlington CT. We clearly were starting our journey off on the right foot! In a state of abandonment it’s barely clinging to life. A collapsed roof on the left side and foliage that just won’t quit she still stands boldly with her giant silo as the sun lights her up from behind. From a historical standpoint I hate to see any barn fall in a state of disrepair or, worse yet, be torn down. From an artistic perspective sometimes…

German Shepard protects Burlington barn……………
Look closely into the image and you’ll see a German Shepard lying in the grass perhaps claiming his territory. Either way I thought it good to keep my distance. You’ll also notice that somewhat thought it was appropriate to spray paint HAPPY B-DAY. Cheryl mapped out our next barn while I quickly photographed this with my Sony A7RII 42.4 MP full framed, mirrorless and a Sony 24-105 F4 @ 37 mm.
