    Blackstone River, March 2024

Occasionally I have business in Cumberland RI.  When I do I often stop at the Cumberland River State Park which is directly behind the Cumberland Mill Condominiums.  This location, by the highway and walking bridge brings me nothing but peace.  I just take in the surrounding view as well as the rushing water from the Blackstone River.  You can’t beat it for lowering blood pressure. The day I visited there had been considerable rainfall previously for quite some time and the rivers water level was several feet higher than normal.  All the tree’s in the image and video were partially under water. Abandoned Mill, Woonsocket RI

This is an old abandoned mill on Railroad Ave., in Woonsocket, RI.  It’s situated a stones throw north of the Manville Dam (see attached photo).  Rhode Island was, back in the day, known for their mills, mostly textile in nature.  Like many mills of the day the town was built up around them.  This mill sat adjacent to a rail line and a river.  Again, commonplace for old mill’s and factories.  I’m sure this will be turned into apartments or condo’s like so many others.  We’re good at creating places to live just not so good at restoring a thriving manufacturing base. Photographed with a Fujifilm F100fd, 12mp, digital pocket camera.

    Ashton Mill – Cumberland, RI

My interest in taking photographs of old factories begins with my attempt to document the decline of the industrial revolution in Connecticut and parts of RI and W.MASS. Notes about the slideshow (the images are not in any particular order): 1) Blackstone River adjacent to the factory with canal (not shown) down stream. 2) Foot bridge built in recent times to resemble original bridge constructed in early 1800’s. 3) Large bridge is Rt. 116 4) Large brick building is the factory 5)…
