Old barn & US flag, July 4th, Rocky Hill CT
It was the 4th of July weekend and Cheryl and I were travelling down a side road in Rocky Hill, CT when we saw this beautiful old barn. The site of Old Glory hanging from it’s side made it special. I’ve since been by this barn and the flag has been removed. Apparantly put up to commemorate the 4th only.

Withering Barns, east side of Wallingford, CT
A couple of nicely aging barns on S. Branford Rd. about 30 yards south of the Whirlwind Hill intersection. They’re part of a cattle/horse farm that occupies most of the property adjacent to these four corners. At one time Whirlwind Hill was, with it’s dairy farms, a quiety and remote part of town. Like the rest of the town, it too, can’t seem to help but grow with the times. Presently many, higher end, homes are located in this area. Some streets have been added as well to accommodate the housing. There is even a successful vineyard. For me, it’s still a peaceful place to take a drive through. Those old barns that…

Abandoned Barn, No.Branford, CT
While travelling on Rt. 80 in North Branford, CT, mid February of 2015, I spotted this beautiful old barn. I stopped the car, got out, and took this picture from the other side of the highway. It’s cropped rather tightly because there were numerous electrical wires cutting through the tops of the tree line. In addition there were telephone poles and filthy colored snow from the plows in the foreground. Ultimately the easiest solution was a tight crop. Photographed with a Fujifilm F100fd, 12mp, pocket camera.

Abananded Barn – Somers, CT
[wzslider autoplay=”true” interval=”6000″ height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]While driving down Main St., in rural Somers CT, I happened upon these beautiful aging old barns. It was simply by accident but these barns married well with my affinity towards abandoned buildings and character rich barns. Luckily I had my trusty Fujifilm F100fd, 12 mp, digital pocket camera stowed away in the center console. It’s usually there as a backup and today it served that need. I wish the fixed zoom lens had more width as I could have used it. However you make the best with what you have and the vantage points that are available. I can’t make out the faded lettering…

Abandoned Barn – Cheshire, CT
I was driving down Ives Row in Cheshire, CT when I noticed this old barn. I did a U-turn and, pulled to the side of the road, and shot this scene out my drivers window. I used a Sony Nex 7, 24 mp, digital camera and a Sony 10-20 mm wide angle zoom. 1/125, F 6.3, ISO 100.

Flag on a barn – Thompson, CT
[wzslider autoplay=”true” height=”800″ lightbox=”true”]So the thing is I’m just a sucker for the American Flag, especially when it’s in unusual places. One of my favorite locations being the side of a barn. Thompson, CT is located in the north east corner of the State. Known mostly for the Thompson Motor Speedway. When you’re in Thompson you know you’re in the country. I wouldn’t want to run out of gas here, otherwise, a nice area.

Abandoned Cow Farm – Roxbury, CT
[wzslider autoplay=”true” height=”800″ lightbox=”true”]I visited Roxbury, CT for the purposes of photographing an iconic barn with an American flag painted on the side (which I did). However, while there I noticed this old abandoned cow farm. I’ve worked as an on the road salesman in CT for over 30 years and I don’t ever remember going to Roxbury, CT. This is certainly an out of the way, hidden gem, in the rolling hills of Litchfield, CT. I’m sure they have a “downtown” somewhere but I didn’t happen upon it. All I saw was farms and sprawling estates. Because of it’s reclusive nature this part of the world has been home…
