Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. – 28 year retirement watch

I’ve been photographing jewelry recently because all the reflections make it quite difficult so I wanted the challenge. As I was searching for some jewelry to photograph I came upon Dad’s retirement watch from the Wallingford Steel Mill, later to become Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation. It’s about 30 years old because, I believe, he retired in 1993/1994 at the age of 60. It wasn’t long after he retired that he gave me the watch because he knew it would mean a lot to me. As for him, he could care less about a watch. What he did care about was the good living that he was able to offer our…

Sony A7RV Users Manual – Recommended.

The Friedman Archives Guide to Sony’s A7RV by Gary L. Friedman. I’ve owned the, rather complex, Sony A7RV for over a year and have used it extensively.  It wasn’t until I purchased Gary’s online edition of this book that I came into a nearly full understanding of all its features and how to use them.  Although I have studied the Sony Help Guide, and free e-books about the camera, nothing gave me the clarity that this book has.  Gary presents his information in a very organized manner and explains the features in a down to earth way.  As a result some of the things that I just couldn’t quite get…

    Beautiful Monroe Congregational Church

Monroe Congregational Church (Founded 1762) 34 Church St. Monroe CT After I had just photographed the one room schoolhouse just down the street Cheryl and I headed over to what was the original green of Monroe. Once there we noticed, what is almost always the case in every town, a beautiful Congregational Church. I took my gear and headed over to the green, accross the street, to see if I could frame up the shot with some of the surrounding environment. Photographed with a Sony A7RV, 61MP mirrorless camera and a Sony 24-70 F2.8 GMII lens @ 24mm in late fall. 1/125th, f8, ISO 100, MANUAL MODE

    A walk in the park.

If you’re a reader of my blog you know that I love Hubbard Park. I grew up in Meriden and Wallingford and have come here a 1000 times. This was a Thursday afternoon at lunch time in early February. I decided to leave work for an hour and get a little relaxation with the camera. It was fairly void of people except for some lunch time walkers. I drove around the park once looking for what I could possibly make a shot out of and came up with this. In the spring and summer you’ll see couples getting married at this gazebo or having their formal wedding pictures done there.…
