    “Ginny” – my little buddy.

[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]I’ve taken well over a hundred photo’s of my little buddy Ginny but this morning I decided to capture another close up.  The thing about Ginny is that she greets me when I come home from work every day.  Even if it means she has to get up from a nap and walk from one side of the house to the other.  She follow’s me every where.  When I set up a photo shoot in the living room.  She’s right there.  Ginny’s a Persian cat who will be thirteen years old this August. My wife and I almost lost her three years ago when completely out of…

    Happy Birthday to me!

[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”] For my 56th birthday my wonderful wife Cheryl surprised me with a long time desired Sony Carl Zeiss 24mm 1.8 lens and a tabletop lighting setup.  Woohoo!!! The 24mm Zeiss lens will have a 35mm equiv. of 36mm due to the 1.5 crop factor.  This is a good focal length for an “all purpose” lens.  The 24mb files of the Sony Nex 7 will allow me plenty of cropping room if needed. I waited an entire year since purchasing the Nex 7 for a high quality mid length zoom to come out but it never happened.  I’ve put the 18-55 kit lens through the paces.  For a…

Old Ames Manufacturing Mill – Chicopee, MA

[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”] As part of my on going efforts to document the decline of the industrial revolution in this area I have photographed what was once the Ames Manufacturing Company located in Chicopee, MA. Best I could figure there were three rather lengthy and substantial building on comprising their complex. All of which were adjacent to the canal running on the grounds which was used for hydro power beginning back in 1847 when the mill was built. The company was founded in 1791 in Chelmsford, MA by John Ames. The company continued to grow as Nathan Peabody Ames, (John’s son), advanced the business until his death in 1847.…

When bare trees are a good thing!

[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”] I DON’T NEED NO STINKING LEAVES! Like most folks I like the foliage and tree’s in my photo’s to be rich in color and in full bloom. However, there are times when having no leaves on your tree’s is a good thing. It can be a good thing when the leaves block whatever it is you’re trying to photograph and there is no other vantage point. You simply shoot through the tree branches. Is it ideal? Of course not. Is it better than no picture when you won’t have another crack at that picture in the near future? Absolutely. If you look at the attached two…
