Water Colors
[wzslider autoplay=”true” height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”] This was a fun shot that produced bright bold colors. The set up of this shot enhanced it’s appeal (I hope). I’ve included a shot of exactly how this was taken: 1). Utilize a number of colored pencils all having the same length and sharpened to the same points. 2). Tape them to a piece of wood so they are aligned side by side. 3). Find a suitable glass jar. NOTE: I did not have a glass jar. All I had was this rather thick plastic jar. The thick plastic works against image sharpness. Try to use glass to obtain the sharpest detail you can.…

The Heron – my first bird picture.
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]NOTE: The above two photo’s represent the original un-cropped photo with no post processing and the second photo is cropped with post processing. The added digital “noise”, seen mostly in the water, is due to the crop. I took my first bird picture today, strictly by accident. I was at Lyman’s Orchards in Middlefield, CT with Cheryl and we took a walk over to the duck pond. I had no desire to take any photo’s of the hundreds of ducks that were there (everyone feeds them from the rear porch). However, there was a beautiful, (possibly Blue Heron), perched on a rock in the pond. It was the…

Although the building appears to be a full circle it is actually a half circle with a much smaller half circle type building to the rear center. This is a state of the art traning academy and you can learn more by going here. On the grounds, and also shown in the slideshow, is Ct’s firefighter memorial which was dedicated in 2001. I believe the monument contains over 300 names. There are 20 slabs around the base of the monument containing the names of fallen firefighters.…

Interview – Karen Hutton
[wzslider height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”] Karen Hutton’s photography has reached over 1,000,000 followers on Google+! That’s no easy task. In the last two or three years she shifted from a pure business model to following her heart as an artist and this has produced striking results. Although she doesn’t limit herself there is a focus on landscape, architectural and some close up photography. She frequently post processes her captures into an HDR style image. This is the combining of 2-6 images each which are exposed differently to capture extreme dynamic ranges. The multiple images are brought into a software package, (like Photomatrix). They are then tweaked to provide the look she wants through…
