Abandoned Paramount Greeting Cards factory, Pawtucket RI

[wzslider autoplay=”true” interval=”7000″ height=”800″ lightbox=”true”] Paramount Greting Cards 400 Pine Street Pawtucket, RI ———————————————————————————————————————————————————– UPDATE MARCH 15th 2020 Unfortunately several readers have contacted me stating that the old Paramount Greeting Card Company burnt to the ground yesterday. I’m very sorry to hear that and this is one of the reasons I try to preserve history in photographs. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————- After a century in business this manufacturer of greeting cards finally closed it’s doors in 2006 resulting in a loss of jobs for approx. 1200 people. You have to give them credit. Most manufacturers from that era folded their tent in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. They hung on longer than most.…

    Abandoned Pawtucket Train Station

[wzslider autoplay=”true” interval=”7000″ height=”800″ lightbox=”true”] Pawtucket Train Station 9 Railroad Street Pawtucket, RI Pawtucket, RI is, what I would consider to be, an old Mill town. Spend an hour driving around the City and you’ll run into abandoned or re-purposed factories/mills everywhere. Most are situated in urban neighborhoods. Located just north on I-95 of Providence this City has a population of around 75,000 people. The Pawtucket train station was built in 1915 and began operations in 1916. The facility was closed in 1959 and sits in constant decline ever since. Photographed with Sony Nex 7 mirrorless camera, 10-18mm lens and Nikon D7100 with 18-55mm lens.

    Ron DiCostanzo shares Alaska photos!

[wzslider autoplay=”true” interval=”7000″ height=”800″ info=”true” lightbox=”true”]We’re fortunate enough to have our second contribution to this blog by my friend Ron DiCostanzo.  Back in June of 2015 Ron, along with his wife,  flew out to the area of Juneau Alaska which borders British Columbia Canada and hopped on a boat to try out his new Canon 7D Mark II (birders dream camera).  He knew he could capture some good Eagle and Whale shots in this part of the world and his trip didn’t fail him. His Eagle shots were either at Chichagof Island, (30 miles west of Juneau), or in the area of Juneau.  The whale shots were also in the…

    Hawks – Stratford CT shoreline

[wzslider autoplay=”true” interval=”7000″ height=”800″ lightbox=”true”]My friend Ron, (one of the best surf casting photographers you’ll ever find), treated me to a late afternoon birding session at a Stratford CT shoreline to photograph hawks.  This is an area that Ron frequents often and it has a lot of hawk activity while at the same time very few people. Ron knows a lot more about this type of photography than me and taught me where to sit and the best way to photograph them without intruding on their space.  There were a couple of nests nearby that these fish hawks occupied. Some of the photo’s show a catch that one hawk was…

    Miniature Figurine Photography – “Painters”

As of late I’ve been rather intrigued by these photographers that photograph miniature figurines in natural settings.  So I went out and purchased some miniature figures at the local train shop.  These are 1″ tall figures that are used as part of the scenery in HO train layouts. This was my first attempt.  It’s different.  Something new to do inside during the cold weather.  I’ll be adding to the collection soon.

Abandoned Building, 300 Eddy St., Providence RI

[wzslider autoplay=”true” interval=”7000″ height=”800″ lightbox=”true”]This abandoned building certainly has real potential after a rehab.  I don’t know what used to be here, nor what will be here.  It’s a great location by the river and I’m sure even in it’s current state is worth big bucks.  The photographs depict the front and back of the building. Photographed by Sony Nex-7, 24MP, mirrorless camera with Carl Zeiz 24mm, F1.8 lens.
