    Picture perfect!

First on our list of barns to photograph this Saturday afternoon in April was this absolutely pristine barn in Woodbury CT. We chase barns and we’ve seen a lot of them but few will stack up to the maintenance that this barn has seen over the years. It was so well kept that I almost thought someone was living in it. However, I couldn’t see any drapery in the windows so I’d have to assume that it still functions as a barn. It’s was absolutely beautiful with the addition of a main entrance and an add on room to the rear. Photographed with a Sony A7RII 42.4 MP mirrorless, full…

Miniature Cops and Robbers, vintage style

Since, like most folks these days, I’m stuck at home almost 24/7. So I’m having to switch direction from my typical barn photography to table top photography. This image reflects my first attempt at forced perspective miniature figurine photography. The scene was photographed in the area of Ludlow MA if memory serves me best. However, the two vintage cars and the men were photographed in a table top light box with an all white background. They are miniatures. The people are about 1/2″ tall and the cars are relatively as small. Once I had the image of the miniatures everything was brought into photoshop where I cut out the cars…

    The Camera Man

This little fella was hand made of felt and wood by my Mother 15-20 years ago. She’s the insanely talented acrylics painter in the family but she went through a spell where she hand made beautiful pieces like this. He’s always been one of my very favorite pieces of photography chotzkie. Mom gave it to me when I was a professional photographer. It was a very thoughtful gift and one I’ve always cherished. He always sits proudly in my home studio and watches over me as I set up my shots. If he likes the set up he gives me a tip of the hat. If he doesn’t he waves…

Barn – Mount Carmen Ave., Hamden CT

Looks like the barn to the right/rear was probably the original and the barn in the foreground was added at a later time. These barns are situated on a nice piece of property on Mount Carmel Ave. in Hamden. This road is probably best known for Sleeping Giant State Park and Quinnipiac University. Hopefully the owner is able to tend to the gaping hole in the roof before too much serious deterioration is done. Other than that the exterior has been preserved fairly well. Photographed with a Sony A7RII 42MP full frame, mirrorless camera and a Sony 24-105 lens at 34mm. 1/250th, f16, ISO 400, Aperture priority.

Old Barn, Todd St., Hamden CT

Nice looking old barn on Todd St., in Hamden CT. What makes this one unique is the addition of a chimney. They must have been venting stove pipe into it. Photographed with a Sony A7RII 42.2 MB, full frame mirrorless camera and a Sony FE 24-105 lens @ 51 mm. 1/200th, f11, ISO 400, Aperture Priority

Sunrise Farm – Farmington/Avon CT area

I love signs painted on barns. In this area they are not easy to come by. I thought the cupola was particularly nice. Unfortunately due to heavy brush growth on both sides straight on was the only shot I had. I was unable to gather any info. off the internet as to the history of this barn. One person did write that it was built in 1876 but I don’t have any proof to support that. Photographed with a Nikon D7100, 24 mp camera and a Nikon 18-55 zoom lens at 45/67mm. 1/160th, f13, ISO 200 Aperture priority.

    Quintessential New England

I was doing my usual thing looking for old barns in the northeast country side of Connecticut when I saw this house situated on a main road. It was Early October and the leaves were just starting to turn. The style of the house, the flag on the front, the hand crafted stone wall, it all said New England to me. Quintessential New England! I can smell the apple pies baking in the kitchen. Photographed with a Nikon D7100 and a Nikon 18-55 @ 55mm (in 35mm-82). 1/200th, f11, ISO 400, Aperture Priority.
